MICONNECT L1 -LESSON 3 – MiConnect vs Visiplex vs 100V Line
MiConnect vs Visiplex vs 100V Line Systems
What it is
This module compares three common system types used in schools, enterprises, and public facilities:
-
Visiplex RF Systems
-
A radio-frequency (RF) paging and clock system.
-
Wireless, with dedicated transmitters and receivers.
-
Commonly used where network cabling doesn’t exist or infrastructure upgrades are difficult.
-
-
100V Line + Tone Generators
-
A wired analogue PA (Public Address) system.
-
Audio travels along 100V lines to multiple speakers.
-
Tones and bells triggered by simple timer or tone generator units.
-
-
MiConnect
-
A digital, IP-based ecosystem that integrates audio, visual, safety, and communication devices.
-
Modular and expandable — each Gateway or Node is self-hosted, not dependent on a central controller.
-
What it can do
Visiplex RF
-
Wireless clocks, paging, and message distribution.
-
Ideal for heritage sites, asbestos-laden buildings, or locations with no existing network infrastructure.
-
Portable and fast to deploy.
100V Line + Tone
-
Reliable analogue audio across wired speakers.
-
Simple scheduling with tone generators.
-
Limited to one-zone, all-call systems without advanced control.
MiConnect
-
Plays stored tones, bells, announcements, and music in high fidelity.
-
Triggers signs, strobes, sirens, relays, and SMS alerts.
-
Monitors UPS, vape detectors, CCTV, and security systems.
-
Integrates with IT systems through APIs and webhooks.
-
Modular and scalable — add only the features you need.
What sets it apart
-
Visiplex RF → Great for places without network infrastructure, but limited by ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) licensing on RF transmit power, which restricts range and coverage flexibility.
-
100V Line → Trusted analogue option, but rigid, single-path audio with no real zoning or device integration.
-
MiConnect → Goes beyond paging — it unites audio, visual, safety, sensors, and SMS into one distributed platform.
Why we developed it
Each system has its place:
-
Visiplex RF remains a valuable tool for legacy sites and asbestos-risk buildings where cabling is not possible.
-
100V Line serves as a basic, low-cost bell/PA option, but lacks modern features.
-
MiConnect was built to deliver flexible, digital reliability, modularity, and full ecosystem integration for sites that want to future-proof their safety and communications.
MiSolutions developed MiConnect to complement, not replace, existing offerings — giving clients a choice of the right system for the right site conditions.
Metaphor
-
Visiplex RF → Like walkie-talkies: great when you can’t run wires and need simple, instant communication, but limited in range by regulations.
-
100V Line → Like one giant loudspeaker wired through the whole building: loud and reliable, but everyone hears the same thing.
-
MiConnect → Like Spotify running in a smart home: you can play different things in different rooms, integrate with lights and alarms, and control it all from your phone.
Decision Matrix – Visiplex vs 100V Line vs MiConnect
| Scenario / Requirement | Visiplex RF | 100V Line + Tone | MiConnect |
| Existing Network Infrastructure | ❌ Not required | ❌ Not used | ✅ Required (Ethernet/Wi-Fi) |
| Buildings with Asbestos / No Cabling Possible | ✅ Best fit (wireless deployment) | ❌ Cabling required | ❌ Requires network cabling |
| Multi-Zone Audio Control | ❌ Limited (all-call RF paging) | ❌ Not possible (one audio path) | ✅ Full zoning via Gateways/Nodes |
| Audio Quality | Moderate (RF paging voice/tones) | Good (analogue tones/voice) | ✅ High fidelity (local storage + pro DACs) |
| Scheduling & Automation | ✅ Built-in with transmitter | ✅ Simple tone generator | ✅ External TOA RM/PG (own scheduler in development) |
| Device Integration (Signs, Strobes, Sensors, SMS) | ❌ Not supported | ❌ Not supported | ✅ Native ecosystem (IP Signs, Strobes, Relays, GSM, Vape, UPS, CCTV) |
| Deployment Speed | ✅ Very fast (wireless install) | Moderate (cabling + amps needed) | Moderate (network install + setup) |
| Regulatory Limits | ⚠ Bound by ACMA RF licensing (max transmit power) | ❌ None (wired) | ❌ None (network-based) |
| Cost Profile | $$ (RF infrastructure + license compliance) | $ (basic amps/speakers) | $$–$$$ (modular, scalable with features) |
| Best Fit Use Case | Heritage buildings, asbestos sites, no network | Small schools/offices needing simple bells/PA – MiConnect is planned for this space | Schools, hospitals, enterprise needing full safety + automation |
